Is It Normal to Have Lumps After Lipo?
You just had liposuction and now you're feeling lumps, bumps, or uneven texture under your skin. Before you spiral into worry — take a breath. This is extremely common and in most cases, completely normal.
Why Lumps Happen After Lipo
Liposuction removes fat cells through a cannula (a thin tube) that moves back and forth under the skin. This process disrupts the tissue and triggers your body's natural healing response, which includes:
- Swelling and fluid retention — makes tissue feel uneven and puffy
- Fibrosis — scar tissue forming under the skin creates hard, lumpy patches
- Bruising — pooled blood can feel firm to the touch
- Uneven fat removal — sometimes small irregularities occur during the procedure itself
When Do Lumps Go Away?
Most lumps and unevenness resolve on their own within 3–6 months as swelling subsides and scar tissue softens. However, without proper aftercare, fibrosis can become more permanent.
What You Can Do
- Lymphatic drainage massage: Start as early as your surgeon clears you — ideally within the first week. Support your sessions at home with our Electric Lymphatic Drainage Bead Roller or 3-in-1 Lymphatic Massage Body Brush Set.
- Wear your compression garment consistently: This is non-negotiable for smooth results. Shop our Stage 1 Recovery Fajas — including the Stage 1 Post-Op Compression Faja.
- Stay hydrated: Helps your lymphatic system flush out excess fluid
- Avoid heat and strenuous activity in the early weeks
When to Be Concerned
See your surgeon if lumps are accompanied by fever, increasing pain, redness, or warmth — these could indicate infection or seroma that needs medical attention.
