What Nobody Tells You About BBL Recovery
Social media shows you the before and after. What it doesn't show you is everything in between. If you're preparing for a BBL or currently in recovery, here's the real, unfiltered truth about what to expect.
1. The First Week Is Harder Than You Think
Between the pain, the drains (if applicable), the limited mobility, and the emotional rollercoaster of seeing your swollen body in the mirror — week one is tough. This is normal. It does not mean something went wrong. Read our full BBL Recovery Week 1 guide to know exactly what to expect day by day.
2. You Will Look Worse Before You Look Better
Swelling peaks around days 3–5 and again around week 2. Your body will look bigger, lumpier, and more uneven than your pre-surgery body. This is temporary. Trust the process.
3. The Emotional Dip Is Real
Many patients experience "post-op blues" in the first few weeks. Read more about the emotional side of BBL recovery and how to cope.
4. You Cannot Sit Normally for Weeks
After a BBL, you cannot sit directly on your buttocks for at least 6–8 weeks. Invest in a good BBL pillow — our BBL Recovery Pillow or the BBL Recovery Combo Set are both excellent options.
5. Your Results Will Keep Changing for Months
The body you see at 6 weeks is not your final result. Most patients don't see their true outcome until 3–6 months post-op.
6. Aftercare Is Not Optional
Lymphatic massage, compression garments, foam boards, and ab boards aren't extras — they're essential. Shop our BBL Recovery Essentials collection including our 3-Piece BBL & Lipo Foam Pads and Abdominal Foam Pads.
7. You'll Be Glad You Did It
Despite all of the above, the overwhelming majority of BBL patients say the recovery was worth it. When the swelling goes down and your results reveal themselves, it's a powerful moment.
